Alcohol Base Tincture -- STEP BY STEP |
- Open one bottle of “JUST ADD VODKA”
- Add Vodka (You may substitute Rum or Brandy), making sure vodka is above the level of herbs. (NEVER use rubbing, isopropyl or wood alcohol).
- Seal the jar tightly so that the liquid cannot leak or evaporate. Put the jar in a dark area or inside a paper bag.
- You may need to add more vodka over the next day or two as the dried herbs absorb and expand.
- Leave the mixture for two to three weeks. Gently shake the mixtures once or twice a week during this period.
- You can leave your herb in from 2 weeks to 6 months. After 6 months the liquid will no longer extract the medicines from the herb.
- When it's ready, strain the tincture through a fine sieve into another jar or dark glass. Squeeze the saturated herbs, extracting the remaining liquid until no more drips appear.
- Store tincture in a cool place. Alcohol Tinctures can last up to 2-3 years when stored in a tightly closed container.
- Voila! You have now made your own remarkable medicinal herbal tincture for a fraction of the price you would have paid at the store. Enjoy!

Nonalcoholic tincture -- STEP BY STEP |
- Open one bottle of “JUST ADD VODKA”
- Add Vinegar (Organic apple cider vinegar is preferable) or vegetable glycerine (mix 50% glycerinea with 50% of distill water).
* Life span of apple cider vinegar is reported to be about 1 year where as alcohol is indefinite. Some people use apple cider vinegar because of its own health benefits and because the children take the tinctures as well.
- Making sure liquid is above the level of herbs. Seal the jar tightly so that the liquid cannot leak or evaporate. Put the jar in a dark area.
- You may need to add more liquid over the next day or two as the dried herbs absorb and expand.
- Leave the mixture for three to four weeks. Gently shake the mixtures once or twice a week during this period.
- You can leave your herb in from 2 weeks to 6 months. After 6 months the liquid will no longer extract the medicines from the herb.
- When it's ready, strain the tincture through a fine sieve into another jar or dark glass. Squeeze the saturated herbs, extracting the remaining liquid until no more drips appear.
- Vinegar tinctures should be refrigerated after straining.
* My rule of thumb is that from the moment I strain the vinegar tincture, I only keep it for about 6 months in the refrigerator. |
DOSAGE
Standard dosage is 1-2 teaspoon, 2-3 times daily, diluted in tea, juice or water.
SECOND EXTRACTION
“JUST ADD VODKA” series contains very expensive herbs, so do not trash the herbs. You can use it for second time, leave the Vodka for one month during the second extraction, then discard the herbs before drinking.
