Paying New Year's Visits
On the days of Lunar New Year, people visit
one another to extend their New Year's wishes.
This practice is called "paying a New Year's
visit". This custom remains today. All
the younger family members do obeisance to the
elders in order of seniority. Then the head
of the family leads the juniors in calls on
relatives, friends and neighbors, or the juniors
are asked to send greetings on behalf of the
family. Friends never met for the whole year
also visit one another at this time. Some households
place signature albums called "door books"
at the gate to be signed by visitors. |
