Animal traits: The ox is a symbol of parental love in China. Most Chinese Buddhists believe that the ox was sent to humanity by the goddess of Mercy, Guan Yin, so they are forbidden from eating beef as a sign of love and respect for this noble animal. Chinese believe the ox is stubborn and strong-minded, enduring, and hard-working, and they also believe that the ox is also much more intelligent than it looks.

Character: A born leader, the Oxen are good at planning, excellent in defensive tactics, and alert and careful in waiting out a situation as they weigh the risks, avoiding premature action. They are also hard-working and persistent, they can stick at a task longer and go at it harder than anybody else. They believe in themselves and tend to classify almost everything into two basic categories, good and bad. They hold up their high standards as a model and severely judge those who don't aspire to maintain these same ideals. The Oxen are observant, they have remarkable memories and are good at reporting on absolutely everything they observe.

Lifestyle: The Oxen are not social or party animals, they tend to be quiet at a party. They enjoy most of all being outdoors, hiking, camping, biking, fishing.
